Researcher Taps Into Troop Training

COMPUTER games could be the way of the future when it comes to readying Australian troops for battle, former Kahibah resident Susannah Whitney says.
A researcher for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation in Adelaide, Ms Whitney is studying the benefits of virtual training to try to discover the best ways to train troops before they head overseas on assignment.She is studying different ways the brain remembers past and future for her doctorate at the University of Queensland. Ms Whitney is involved in finding the best ways to use technology to train Australian soldiers, but said it should not be automatically assumed the new way is better.Ms Whitney is one of 2300 Australian scientists, engineers and technicians who work in the Defence Science and Technology Organisation's establishments nationally. Many are leaders in their field and work closely with Australia's industry, science and technology community to enhance Australia's defence and national security capabilities.
