ELECTRONIC GAME REVIEW: Nintendo DS, Brain Training, Nintendo, G, RRP $50 ****?

Arithmetic, memory tests and language challenges might seem a radical departure from saving the princess, but Brain Training cleverly uses our competitive instincts to make learning fun. Once you start passing the console to friends, the competition will be furious. Using the DS touch panel and a microphone to (almost always) recognise your written and spoken words, the game is so intuitive that absolutely anyone can play. Tasks include simple memory trials, maths, reading extracts from literary classics, puzzles, syllable and item counting tests, sudoku and drawing challenges. Training games are designed to take just 10 minutes to complete, and the game can calculate your "brain age" based on the accuracy and speed of your responses. Whether it is truly educational is moot, but no one will debate Brain Training's novelty or entertainment value.
